Act 18 was passed in 2023 by the Vermont legislature with the support of the largest fossil fuel sellers and energy conglomerates operating in Vermont.

It was not supported by the small, locally owned fuel dealers.

They see the law as a way to eliminate choice and competition.

If implemented in 2025, it will drive up the cost of fuel oil and propane and lead to further consolidation in the market.
